The goal of this project was to create and establish a logo and identity system for the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa General Education program. The General Education program sought to rebrand themselves because of the following:
“There is either poor perception of the program – and by extension, the office – or a lack of awareness of the program and its value to the undergraduate experience.”
With this in mind, I created a logo abstracting the Red Torch Ginger flower. This flower in Hawaiian flower language represents limitless wealth, diversity, and knowledge: all values that I felt General Education sought to support. The arch at the top represents a well-rounded student and below is an open book which is symbolic of learning.
The process book includes the exploration of three different possible identities for the General Education program. Each section includes research, sketching, type variations, color variations, and various application.
